About
Shyndyqkz is an independent media outlet covering corruption and the work of government in Kazakhstan. The site is published in Russian, Kazakh and English.
What we publish
We do not run our own investigations. The site publishes three kinds of stories:
- Publication digests — short summaries, in our own words, of reporting by other media, reports and official documents on corruption and the work of state bodies. Every digest links to the original source.
- Editorial commentary — our opinion on decisions by the government and state bodies. These pieces are always labelled “Opinion”.
- Opposition positions — statements, programmes and interviews of opposition politicians and movements, with a link to the source.
Editorial policy
- We keep facts and opinions apart. Editorial commentary and everything in the Opinion section is labelled as opinion.
- We do not make accusations in our own name; we write “according to…”, “as … reports”, “the document says…”.
- When a story concerns a specific person, we include their position or response from open sources whenever possible.
- We rely on recognised outlets, official documents and open data. Anonymous Telegram channels and rumours are not sources for us; if we mention them, they are marked “unconfirmed”.
- We do not publish or share materials of organisations designated as extremist or banned by a court in Kazakhstan. We report on them only as news events, citing independent media.
- We do not publish calls for violence, incitement of hatred or unlawful actions.
- Every story is checked and approved by an editor before publication.
How we cite other outlets
- We never copy articles in full or in large parts — we only summarise in our own words.
- A link to the original appears at the beginning and at the end of every digest. We name the outlet, the author (if given), the publication date and the link.
- Quotes are short, in quotation marks, with the author and outlet named.
- We do not use other people’s photos or videos without permission. Illustrations are our own cards or freely licensed photos with the author credited.
- If an outlet allows republication, we follow its terms and state them in the story.
Errors and corrections
If you notice an inaccuracy in a summary or want to share your position on a story, write to us — we will check and correct it if needed.
